The viscosity characteristics of cosmetics, personal cleaning products and pharmaceutical products are important for production, packaging, filling and storage, but especially for the experience of using the product. Customers love the smooth feeling they get when applying a cream on their skin. The want the toothpaste stay well placed on their toothbrush, but at the same time it must be easy to squeeze it out of the tube; they want the drug in liquid form to be easy to dose and comfortable to take. The viscosity of shampoos, conditioners and pharmaceutical products developed for topical application, such as lotions, gels and creams, or for oral application, such as syrups that come in liquid, semi-solid and solid form, can be checked with our Selevisco 9000 viscometer, either during the packaging process, with in-line viscosity monitoring, and during the various stages of production.

The viscosity control systems Selevisco 9000 allow the measuring and correction of the viscosity of any kind of cosmetic or pharmaceutical liquid for topical use, such as creams, lotions, shower gels, shampoos, cleansing milk, or for oral use, as syrups and drops, or for parenteral use such as drugs for injections.

Selevisco 9000 9000 operates through a measuring head placed in line with the flow, a control panel for the display and regulation of the rheological characteristics, and, additionally, multiple accessories which complete the system’s operativity.

The programmed viscosity value is compared with the detected one on the basis of the difference of the measured values by means of a precise comparative logic. It is also possible to perform a manual measuring by receiving the viscosity value directly from the system.

The Selevisco 9000 viscosity control systems can be applied to a vast range of industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical fields. In particular, they are ideal for monitoring during the production and packaging of shower gel, shampoo, liquid soap and in general in the industry of products for personal and household cleaning. In cosmetics it is necessary to use the viscometer for the production of creams, cosmetic oil, moisturizing and cleansing milk and products that require a pleasant and stable texture to the touch over time, as well as in many other other applications with special performances that can be custom designed. In the pharmaceutical sector, the viscometer is used to check the viscosity of syrups and drugs with a liquid consistency such as solutions for drips or injections, but also with a creamy consistency such as ointments, gels and lotions for topical use.

The SELEVISCO control systems allow fluids viscosity measurement through a vibrating sensorial system immersed into the cosmetic or pharmaceutical fluid that needs to be monitored.
The measuring head is protected by a very resistant capsule of small dimensions, integrating proper anchoring arrangements to external supports that allow its application easily even in extremely limited spaces. For cosmetic and pharmaceutical production plants, off-line application inside sampling tanks is possible.

Through a precise comparative viscosity controller, the system enables the constant maintenance of the correct mixing of different fluids; therefore, this type of application can be integrated and personalized in various industrial sectors.

The viscometer SELEVISCO series 9000 has been specifically engineered to control the viscosity and it is also applied to pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations, emulsions, fluids and liquids and offers:

Wide range of application: this specific model is designed for viscosity verification within a field of 40 to 500 cps (corresponding approximately to 9 – 120 seconds using a Ford cup size 4) and therefore permits the control of lotions, oils, syrups, gels, soap, cosmetics and liquid medicaments.
Extremely high precision: granting an outstanding reading tolerance with the possibility of modulating according to specific needs through personalized modes. The peculiar application allows the control of liquids in flowing conditions, thus permitting its application directly on the supplying pipeline. The system sports an integrated temperature control for data modulation based on its variation.
Minimum maintenance: the absence of moving elements eliminates the necessity of frequent maintenance. Furthermore, SELEVISCO can be integrated with a system of automatic washing cycles, guaranteeing efficiency and functionality for extremely long periods of time without any special arrangement.
The operating principle of the viscosity system is adaptable to multiple solutions. The main versions provide for the inline installation on the flow meant to be measured, or offline within containers. Both solutions are based on the patented principle of the vibrating reed and guarantee extremely high precision and reliability.

Based on the vibrating technology, the offline sensor is installed directly into the tank, granting a better ease of use. The offline sensor is easy to clean and resistant to chemical corrosion thanks to its Teflon coating protection.

Operator friendly

The managing software allows data recording on recipes, allowing for setup and operational reputability. The data displaying and the controls are incorporated into the individual synoptics for each measuring unit. Alternatively, the measuring head can be connected to the touch screen operational interface, based on a Windows platform.

The SELEVISCO 9000 control panel allows the display of data and command execution.
Each control panel manages a unit of measurement and can be applied within existing frameworks or supplied integrated into custom pulpits.
In manual mode the system displays the viscosity measured by a single sensor and allows the operator to intervene manually to correct the viscosity value.
In automatic mode the system compares the programmed viscosity value and the measured one.

In case of malfunctioning the system activates the proper visual and audible alarm to alert the operator. The system has been designed to be auto-cleaning. The solvent enters directly in the measuring sensor both during the regulation step and when the cleaning function is activated at the end of the job. Adequate liquids should be used for the washing cycles according to the fluids’ mixture. The supply should be connected directly to an inlet port located on the measuring head. The data displaying and the controls are incorporated into individual synoptics for each measuring unit that can be retrofitted into existing cubicles or integrated on personalized consoles.

Alternatively, the measuring heads can be linked and interfaced to the machineries’ control systems through customized arrangements, or to PC systems with touch screen interface based on Windows operating systems, and complete with a specific software for job statistics.
The measuring heads and the control units are connected by electric wires, thus permitting the installation of these elements even within long distances.
